These are large stationary vessels removed from manufacturing plants, utilities, bulk plants and other industrial sites, offered as-is and subject to availability. We focus on large horizontal tanks, commonly 18,000-, 30,000- and 60,000-gallon vessels, not residential tanks or portable cylinders.

What Salvage and Decommissioned Tanks Are

A decommissioned tank has been taken out of service, emptied and removed from its original site. A salvage or scrap tank is one being sold for its material, for parts, or for evaluation by a buyer rather than as equipment ready for installation. Condition, age and available records differ from tank to tank, so we discuss each vessel individually.

Buyers look for old or out-of-service propane tanks for many reasons, including steel value, fabrication projects and non-pressure uses. Tell us what you plan to do with the tank so we can point you toward vessels that fit.

A tank sold as salvage or scrap is not represented as ready for propane or pressure service. Any tank intended to return to pressure service must be inspected and evaluated by qualified professionals under the codes and regulations that apply at the installation site.

What to Ask About a Salvage Tank

Ask about the tank’s capacity, dimensions, approximate weight, manufacturer, year built, data plate and any available records, along with its current location and condition. Plan for lifting and transportation: large vessels may need cranes, heavy-haul trucking and permits. Loading, freight and unloading responsibilities are agreed for each sale.
